Events & Training Advisor, The Royal College of Midwives (RCM)

I have worked in events for over 10 years and am lucky enough to combine two interests of mine charity and events. I didn’t start out in the event industry and would say I fell into it by accident. I have a diploma in event management and social media which I completed at night school whilst working full time. Events for me began at the Institute of Development Studies where I ran the administration for training researchers in developing countries. Six years ago, I moved to the Royal College of Midwives and have worked my way up to my current position advising the college on their events programme and running more than 80 events a year. In 2020 the world changed and like all those in my industry I have had to adapt rapidly. I have brought in a virtual events function and trained a team of 4 to support me in the technical aspects of running virtual events. I am now in the process of developing a full webinar and podcast programme for 2021 for the professional and trade union side of the RCM. This year I am a mentee on the Fast Forward 15 programme which aims to inspire, encourage and empower women in the events, hospitality and related industry to be the best they can be
