Strengthening the Talent Pipeline: Events Apprenticeships moves to The Power of Events with newly approved industry-ready standards
The events industry is celebrating two major milestones. The newly updated Level 3 Event Co-ordinator Apprenticeship Standard has now been formally approved by Government, and the Events Apprenticeships initiative will move under the wider remit of The Power of Events. Together, these changes mark a bold step forward in building long-term, sustainable routes into the industry.
After strategic discussions, the Events Apprenticeships team and The Power of Events agreed the time was right to align efforts. The programme now sits within a platform with broader reach, greater visibility, and a clear commitment to showcasing the role of apprenticeships in workforce planning. This transition enhances opportunities for engagement across the sector and creates a more joined-up journey from awareness to entry-level employment.
By connecting with The Power of Events’ schools engagement activity, the apprenticeship programme will now form part of a wider educational ecosystem. Candice Kass will remain closely involved, supporting continuity and ensuring apprenticeships continue to develop as a priority.
Simon Hughes, Director at The Power of Events, said:
"As a vital entry point into our sector, apprenticeships are increasingly part of long-term career planning. Supporting and amplifying this work fits naturally within our broader mission to strengthen the events industry for the future."
Richard Waddington, Chair of Events Apprenticeships, added:
"We’re proud of the momentum we’ve built. Apprenticeships offer fully funded training across a wide skills base and we’re excited to now be part of The Power of Events, opening the door to a broader and more diverse talent pool across the UK."
A Future-Focused Standard Shaped by Industry
The newly approved apprenticeship standard reflects two years of sector-wide collaboration. Now titled Event Co-ordinator (formerly Event Assistant), the updated standard better reflects the scope and responsibility of the role. It offers a practical, structured route for employers to future-proof their teams and build capability in-house.
Employers are encouraged to begin planning how the new standard can support recruitment and workforce development from 2026 onwards. Training providers will play a central role in helping organisations implement the updated duties and KSBs (Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours).
Laura Capell-Abra of Stress Matters commented:
"This marks a crucial step in supporting future talent. I’m excited to see how organisations embrace the standard and the success stories it will undoubtedly generate. Thank you to every employer who contributed, and to everyone who made this possible."
A special thank you goes to Laura Capell-Abra (Stress Matters), Lou Kiwanuka (Ops Nest), and Anna Green (Broadsword) for their leadership throughout the development process.
