International Confex goes Green

Starting with the implementation of no show guides onsite, organisers have reported a 156% increase in the show app downloads within the first two weeks of release to the Apple and Android App store compared to last year. We spoke to organiser Mash Media’s, marketing director, Alex Jones who told us, ‘ The team spent a lot of time ensuring the APP was perfect for both exhibitor and visitors, we really looked at the UX from all angles. We have improved the meeting function and have set up an API connection between our website partner ASP and our app partner SwapCard to ensure the exhibitor and conference information is updated live time. So we are absolutely delighted with the end result and the fact that the community have adopted it in record numbers’

With the introduction of wristbands made with biodegradable wildflower seed paper to gain entry to the afterparty, courtesy of Media Hut Jones continued, ‘Our partners have been key in us being able to make this shift in creating a more sustainable event, and we hope that it helps inspire other event planners to see what we are doing and what's out there as inspiration to take back to their own events’

The organisers have also worked closely with the team at ExCel to ensure that 90% of venue signage onsite will use the digital touch points within ExCel and with any printed materials being produced on recycled paper with print partner Hollywood print.

Simon Mills, executive director, ExCeL London said, ‘We are delighted that International Confex is taking strides to deliver a more sustainable event, including reducing unnecessary waste. At ExCeL, our corporate social purpose focuses on four key areas: reducing waste, increasing energy efficiency, delivering more sustainable food choices and supporting our local community.  Over half our waste is recycled and the rest is used to create renewable energy. Other innovations include sourcing 100% of our electricity from renewable sources and recycling vegetable waste in our on-site wormery. We look forward to working with the team at Mash Media to make this year’s International Confex the most sustainable yet.”
