You don’t need us to tell you that COVID-19 has wreaked havoc with our industry this year. Not only financially but from an emotional and mental perspective, we have all missed what promised to be a great Summer!
With that in mind, we need to make sure we do everything we can to make sure we prevent a repeat of a completely wiped out season!
As a result of the pandemic, each and every one of us has adopted new lifestyles and changed our behaviour to prevent the spread of the virus and to protect our loved ones. We have shown great resilience and achieved a great deal proving that when we need to, we can change our behaviour en masse for the better cause.
The pandemic is also changing the way we think and this means as event organisers and venues, we need to be aware of what our customer thinks and act accordingly. More than ever, consumers are demanding that businesses and Government take action and are looking to brands to take an active role in shaping the narrative for not just a new normal, but a new better!
What do consumers think?
Kantar consumer statistics tell us that before COVID-19, 30.5% of consumers actively sought out companies that offer ways to offset their environmental impact. This has risen to 49.3% during the pandemic, meaning that almost half of consumers are looking to businesses, brands and organisations to do the right thing for the planet.
What does this mean for you as an organiser?
So what does packaging for food and beverages have to do with COVID-19 and the effect it has had on our industry? Simply put, if we don’t change the way we treat our planet, climate change will have a more devastating impact - environmentally and financially - than COVID-19. The fact is we are running out of time and unless we act now and change our behaviour, climate change will devastate the events industry. Indeed, we have already seen in the last few years the number of events completely wiped out by adverse weather has increased and will continue to do so. The time to act is NOW!
