Towards inclusive events - a case study focus on those with lived experience of dementia
At Alzheimer's Society we want to ensure that the conferences and events we run (both internal and external) are as inclusive and welcoming as possible for all individuals. We have developed guidance, working with lived experience groups within our organisation such as our neurodiversity network, guidance is now used within the organisation by anyone planning an event. We know this is not/may never be an exhaustive list, but where we can make adjustments to make event experiences better, we do. A key focus of our planning is always around those with dementia attending, and we always work with experts with lived experience to plan our events and select venues, to recommend adjustments, every experience is different so this involves consulting groups of people, and sometimes co-producing events.
