"It Takes All Kinds of Minds: A Blueprint for Inclusive Events"
In the dynamic world of business events, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has become more than just a buzzword; it's a crucial driver of positive societal change. As an industry it is our responsibility to explore and learn how we can play our part in a more inclusive society.
In March 2023, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) collaborated with the Salvesen Mindroom Centre to host ITAKOM (It take all kinds of minds) — an international conference dedicated to neurodiversity and inclusion. Founded in 2003 by Sophie Dow, the Salvesen Mindroom Centre champions a more inclusive world for neurodivergent individuals, providing free support for conditions like ADHD, autism, dyslexia, OCD, and Tourette syndrome.
Our presentation will display how the EICC and Salvesen Mindroom meticulously worked in partnership to create an event that embraced diversity, going beyond rhetoric to deliver a truly inclusive experience. From silent applause ("flappause") for noise-sensitive delegates to providing fidget toys, pronoun badges, and special lighting, the event design catered to a wide range of diverse needs.
Hear about the collaborative efforts behind ITAKOM and gain valuable insights into creating inclusive events. Uncover lessons learned that will empower you on your DEI journey, ensuring your future events become catalysts for positive societal change. Let's transform events into platforms where everyone feels welcomed, represented, and empowered to participate fully.
