IHG HOTELS & RESORTS - Journey To Tomorrow
IHG HOTELS & RESORTS JOURNEY TO TOMORROW: DEC 2022 UPDATE
Guests are paying more attention than ever to how a hotel looks after the world around it. An increasing number of consumers are deciding whether to book a stay based upon a property’s carbon footprint, sustainable practices and how it supports the communities in which it operates.
A global study commissioned by IHG revealed 83% of consumers noted the importance of choosing a hotel brand that operates responsibly and guests were willing to spend on average 31% more on accommodation that meets this need. In response to this growing appetite for more eco-friendly stays, search engines and OTAs are now highlighting a hotel’s credentials, such as Google and Booking.com.
IHG Hotels & Resorts Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plan is playing an important role in helping us meet this demand from our millions of guests around the world through its series of far-reaching commitments to drive environmental and social change. This is a 10-year action plan of clear commitments to drive change for our people, communities and planet, aligned to our purpose of True Hospitality for Good and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. To support this and to ensure thoughtful collaboration with hotel owners, IHG has recently established the Environmental Sustainability Committee with the IHG Owners Association, which will collaborate with IHG on both carbon and energy reduction in hotel operations.
In addition, two responsible business portals for colleagues have been created to support hotels in operating responsibly and sustainably, while helping to deliver on targets. Covering everything from corporate responsibility and ethics to human rights and crisis management, the portals streamline relevant content, training resources and useful materials from across the business.
As well as the actions IHG takes alongside owners and partners, it’s vital that businesses, trade bodies and governments also work together. IHG is committed to playing an active role, including co-ordinating our efforts with the World Travel Tourism Council, and supporting the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, which sees the world’s top hotel groups collaborate for the greater good.
