Manchester has been named as one of 25 global destinations to be included in the Where to Go 2024 list by prestigious US travel publication AFAR.

The award-winning travel brand has unveiled its top list of places to travel, with Manchester featuring as one of the destinations chosen by AFAR’s editors and correspondents.

The Where to Go 2024 list, provides readers with a selection of destinations that promise unique and immersive experiences. This year's compilation spotlights Manchester's vibrant and booming creative arts scene, positioning it as a must-visit destination for travellers seeking the best cultural offering.

Victoria Braddock, Managing Director at Marketing Manchester, said: “We are thrilled and immensely proud to see Manchester shine on AFAR’s Where to Go 2024 global travel list. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the city region’s vibrant creative scene and undeniable appeal to global travellers.

Manchester has become the place to visit in 2024 with a plethora of new openings such as the UK’s newest and biggest music venue Co-Op Live, one of Europe’s largest cultural venues, Aviva Studios, and a mix of luxury hotels and restaurants. This recognition is key to the ongoing work Marketing Manchester is doing to support inbound tourism to Greater Manchester from the US, highlighting the city's continuous evolution as a must-visit destination for international travellers.”

Manchester, known for its dynamic cultural landscape, has become a focal point for travellers seeking cutting-edge artistic experiences. AFAR's recognition of Manchester adds to the growing list of publications featuring Manchester as a top destination for 2024. Earlier in the year, the online US guide Travel Lemming also highlighted the city to its 10 million readers, in a list of the world’s top 50 places to visit, with Manchester placed at number 15.

Throughout 2023, Manchester was also recognised with ten significant travel accolades including Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel, and National Geographic’s Best of the World, further highlighting the growth of the city as a visitor destination.

Billie Cohen, Executive Editor of AFAR, said: "Manchester has a long history of creativity and of cultural influence that extends way beyond its city boundaries. When I visited, it was exciting to feel that energy building yet again—and in concrete ways that visitors can easily tap into and experience for themselves."

As AFAR continues to inspire and guide discerning travellers, the inclusion of Manchester in the Where to Go 2024 list reinforces the city's position as a must-visit destination for those seeking enriching cultural experiences in the coming year.
