Live Streaming the British Gravel Racing Championships
For the Live Streaming the British Gravel Racing Championships project, Stream7 was tasked with turning one of the UK’s most exciting outdoor race events into a world-class live broadcast that fans could enjoy from anywhere. The championships took place in the stunning but technically demanding terrain of Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire, where limited mobile coverage, dense woodland and a sprawling course presented major connectivity challenges.
Our team worked in close partnership with 4SEASONCOLLECTIVE and broadcast specialists Video Village to transform a forest clearing into a fully operational live broadcast hub. Prior to race day, extensive site visits and testing helped inform a resilient connectivity solution using bonded cellular networking and Starlink satellite support, ensuring reliable transmission of dynamic content from even the most remote parts of the course.
On race day, Stream7 delivered a multi-layered live stream that blended sweeping drone aerials, dynamic motorbike-mounted cameras, on-bike footage and studio commentary to capture the full breadth of the action. All video feeds were routed back to the Video Village OB truck, where our technical team cut between sources in real time, integrating live commentary, timing graphics and pre-recorded segments to create a broadcast that felt every bit as polished as a televised sporting event.
One of the standout achievements of the project was delivering nine hours of uninterrupted coverage on YouTube despite the remote and challenging environment — a testament to meticulous planning, robust technology and seamless teamwork. The result was a streamed event that brought the excitement, intensity and unpredictability of gravel racing to fans around the world, giving them a front-row seat to every climb, sprint and decisive moment.
This project exemplified Stream7’s ability to combine innovative connectivity, content creation and live streaming expertise to deliver sports coverage that rivals traditional broadcast production, even in unconventional settings.
