UBM Live’s International Confex has been announced as a finalist in the 2013 AEO Excellence Awards within the ‘best use of social media’ category.

“We’re delighted that our social media activity has been recognised by such an esteemed judging panel” said event director, James Samuel. “Social media represents a huge opportunity to communicate with our community all year round and we take that extremely seriously. It is another channel with which to communicate our news and information but, more importantly, it allows us to listen to and converse with our customers in real time.”

This year the International Confex and Live Experience team made a concerted effort to combine a consistent year-round approach with a peak in activity for the show itself. This included an element of gamification through Leaderboarded, a tool which allows participants to compete to reach the top of an interactive leader board by tweeting relevant and high quality content.  Another highlight was social voting through Twitter for the Peoples’ Choice stand award, which was won by Animate & Create. Additional platforms used include Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest.

The winners of the AEO Excellence Awards will be announced in 21st June at Old Billingsgate.  The glittering ceremony is open to all organisers, venues and suppliers operating in the worldwide trade and consumer exhibition and events industry.
